Spencer Sweitzer, PGA - Associate

Director of Instruction, Aguila GC

What is your golf background?

A Jim McLean Certified Instructor, PGA Associate, golf coach, and Director of Instruction with a passion for helping people get better and have more fun playing golf!

My experience includes five years at The International Golf Club in Bolton, MA., two years as 1st Assistant and a Jim McLean Certified Teaching Professional at the Jim McLean Golf School in Coral Gables, FL., and currently as the Director of Instruction at the Aguila G.C. in Phoenix, AZ.

Throughout my career I have:

  • Coached students of all ages and abilities in many formats from 1-on-1 and playing lessons to team lessons, golf schools, clinics, camps, and more
  • Worked with students to create customized player development plans for improving their game
  • Developed and led Jim McLean Summer Camp and Team McLean after school programs
  • Assisted Jim McLean personally with lessons, including PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour players
  • Coached the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Junior High girls golf team
  • Utilized golf teaching technology systems including TrackMan, BodiTrak, SAM PuttLab, K-Motion K-Vest, JC Video, and more

My competitive amateur playing career has included the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, and U.S. Mid-Amateur local qualifiers, as well as competing in the Ohio Amateur, Ohio Mid-Amateur, and Cincinnati Met. tournaments.

I played NCAA Division I golf at Bryant University, in Smithfield, RI. During my time there I served as Team Captain, collected several Northeast Conference (NEC) Golfer of the Week selections, and was named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll.

What is your teaching style?

People come in all shapes and sizes and with many different ability levels. I don’t feel the need to mold someone into the perfect swing. The goal is to get the ball in the hole. If we can get the face square at impact it doesn’t matter what the swing looks like. I focus on the fundamentals to achieve our goals and make sure the student is having fun with the game while playing their best golf. Ultimately, I want the student to understand their flaws and be able to correct them without me being there.
