Kurt Brown, PGA

Director of Instruction, Encanto GC

What is your golf background?

I was taught this game by my Father and Grandfather starting at 4 years old. As soon as I knew I could hang out with them, I was HOOKED. Once I turned 12, I found out I was better than a lot of other players and started taking it more seriously. Was a solid player throughout my junior playing and decided to turn my passion into a career. Went to Ferris State University, which had the number 1 Professional Golf Management Program in the country and away I went. I graduated in 2011, then started working as an Assistant Golf Professional at Camelback Golf Club. Here I was introduced to Craig Bunker, one of the best instructors you’ll come across and I found my real passion of teaching this game. I was blessed to be able to learn under him and numerous other instructors over my time there, while also going through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) training to learn about the human movement and coaching.

What is your teaching style?

What’s the ball doing? What’s the club doing? And what’s the body doing? I’ve always worked off these three questions while coaching. The ball only knows one thing and it’s what the club face tells it. Once you have figured out that you can clean up a lot of the golf swing. Then we have to look at what you CAN do with your movements. That’s just a small part of the game.. The golf swing! After that it’s learning how to play the game and manage your mind while on the course!
