John Wasson, PGA

Director of Instruction, Palo Verde GC

What is your golf background?

I started playing golf when I was twelve and learned the game from my dad. I have been teaching golf for about 30 years now. I started out cleaning clubs and absolutely fell in love with helping others learn about this great game. I became a professional with the PGA of America in 1996 and soon after I taught for one of the largest golf schools in the world, traveling the country teaching golf in more than a dozen states. Recently I was the Club Golf Coach at Grand Canyon University (winning multiple regional titles and NCCGA National Championship in 2018).  I am also ADM (American Development Model) certified.

What is your teaching style?

People come in all shapes and sizes and with many different ability levels. I don’t feel the need to mold someone into the perfect swing. The goal is to get the ball in the hole. If we can get the face square at impact it doesn’t matter what the swing looks like. I focus on the fundamentals to achieve our goals and make sure the student is having fun with the game while playing their best golf. Ultimately, I want the student to understand their flaws and be able to correct them without me being there.
